Platelet contains a large number of growth factors, such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF – beta), insulin-like growth factor (IGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).

Blood contains plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Platelets are small discoid cells with a life span of about 7-10 days. They then release the granules which contain growth factors which stimulate the inflammatory cascade and healing process.
